Student Involvement in the IEP Meeting
It is hoped that students will feel that they have a voice in their educational needs. In the end, educators, parents and students need to work together to facilitate student involvement within their IEP process. Students learn to become advocates though education and practice of self-determination skills. Most of all, as a society we can listen and encourage students to have a voice in their education.
“Include us. Listen to what we have to say. We know things you may not know and we offer the opportunity for you to work and learn with us to better understand what self-determination means in our lives” (Hughes & Agran, 1998).
